All About HYPERTENSION

Hypertension is one of the major causes of disability and death all over the world. In many cases, hypertension does not cause any symptoms. It is known as silent killer becauseif is left untreated causes heart attack, brain haemorrhage, kidney failure.

The systolic blood pressure, which is the top number, represents the pressure in the arteries as the heart contracts and pumps blood into the circulation. The diastolic pressure, which is the bottom number, represents the pressure in the arteries as the heart relaxes after the contraction. The diastolic pressure, therefore, reflects the minimum pressure to which the arteries are exposed.

Hypertension is the pressure that blood exerts onthe walls of  blood vessel . High blood pressure occurs when heart works harder to pump blood. Thickening of blood vessels (arteriosclerosis) causes it. In other words when arterial blood pressure is elevated above the normal ranges, it is called hypertension. The normal blood pressure reading is systolic 120 and diastolic 80. In Ayurveda hypertension is known as uccha rakta chapa.
